I started Lunch Break Reads during the pandemic. Like so many, I was at home, working and living on the Internet, and desperate for a connection to people who shared my love of reading. I had an idea that collecting and sharing my favorite longform reporting, essays, and fiction might be something that people liked, and I was pleasantly surprised by the response.
Life has a way of interrupting ideas, and as the world opened back up and work reasserted itself in my life, the project went by the wayside for a few years.
Fast-forward to 2025. The Internet sucks, pre-pandemic social life has not come back fully (at least for me), and my desire to connect with others is stronger than ever. I decided to dust off this old idea and spend some real time making it something people would enjoy.
There is some irony about craving connecting and finding it on the Internet, but I think newsletters and blogs like this are an antidote to the endless scrolling and constant barrage of bad news on the front page of every site.
So that is this, my corner of the Web where I can share what I love with others. I hope you enjoy some of it and join the little group of readers who get the daily e-mail.
